Brazen Saddles: Riding Across the Country for SRLP!

We are Erin Hansen, Nora Hirozawa, Jesse Montgomery & Max Rivlin-Nadler, and we are taking a real long bike trip!

Why are we doing this? Many reasons! To have fun, be together, see new parts of the country, meet new people, experience the outdoors, use our bodies in an empowering way…the list goes on. We each have slightly different motivations to embark on this journey, and we are all so thrilled to be doing it together.

We are also using this opportunity to support an organization that we respect and admire: the Sylvia Rivera Law Project. SRLP is a New York City-based, non-profit, collective organization that works to guarantee that all people are free to self-determine gender identity and expression, regardless of income or race, and without facing harassment, discrimination or violence. We are excited to support SRLP because we believe it is doing important and necessary work in our community; SRLP has been active in NYC for more than 10 years, providing free legal services, training, education and advocacy to help transgender and gender non-conforming people, primarily low-income people and people of color, meet their basic needs. Our support will help enable the organization to continue to protect and empower people who we believe are not adequately protected by the systems that currently exist.

Our goal for this bike trip is to raise $20,000 for SRLP. If you feel compelled to support our journey and this important work, please feel free to make a $20, $10 or $5 donation to the organization. All donations are tax-deductible and will go directly to SRLP to help fund the variety of services that the project provides. You may make a donation using a credit card or PayPal account by clicking this link: http://srlp.org/civicrm-base-page?page=CiviCRM&q=civicrm/pcp/info&reset=1&id=11, or you may send a check to the Sylvia Rivera Law Project (147 W. 24th Street, 5th Floor, New York, NY 10011), with one of our names in the memo line. Any amount you can give will make a huge difference in allowing this movement to continue growing, and will provide motivational fuel for us as we make our way across the country.

Please get in touch with us if you have comments, questions or would like to support us in any other way! We always appreciate words of encouragement, songs, care packages, touring recommendations and lodging tips. You can reach us at brazensaddles2014@gmail.com.

Thanks!
