DESCRIPTION:Happy 2013\, SRLP Community!\nWe're excited about the work we'l l be doing this new year.  This month we will host another the second new member orientation on January 17th at 6 PM.  Orientations are a chance f or you to learn how to become more involved with SRLP.\n\nFor more informa tion on membership see below!\n\nFood &\; metrocards will be available as well as Spanish interpretation. SRLP is located at 147 West 24th Street \, 5th Floor.  Our building has an elevator.  For more on access informa tion or to RSVP email reina@srlp.org\n\n \;\n\nWhat do members do?\n\n Attend general membership meetings to give feedback about SRLP work\, lea rn about upcoming events and ways to become involved.\n Members who have t he time and interest can join SRLP’s teams to carry out the work of SRLP .\n Members who are low-income trans\, gender non conforming and intersex people or trans\, gender non conforming\, intersex people of color are str ongly encouraged to get involved in the Movement Building Team!\n Members who don't have time for a regular commitment or don't feel like any of t he teams call to them can participate in "one-shot" volunteering or event opportunities like helping with an event\, a mailing\, participating in Ho t Stuff or Coffee Talk\, etc\n\n How do I become a member?\n\nOne way to become a member is by attending membership orientation\, filling out the m embership application and signing the membership book.  Orientations will happen four times are year at SRLP\, with one orientation geared towards primary Spanish speakers.  If you can’t attend an orientation contact m embership director Reina Gossett to set up a time to get oriented\, and in the meantime fill out the application and you’ll be on your way!\n\nWha t do I get from being a member?\n\n You get a process to increase your ow nership &\; leadership in the Sylvia Rivera Law Project! By becoming a member you help shape and direct SRLP’s future by sharing your vision an d voice.  You also get a fancy button of our namesake Sylvia Rivera desig ned by Jennifer Patterson as well as more contact with SRLP staff.  There will also be two membership appreciations each year where SRLP staff will be on hand to appreciate your hard work and listen to your feedback!\n\nC an I still get legal services if I am not a member?\n\nYes. If you are low income and/or a person of color and are trans\, gender non conforming or intersex you can access free legal services at SRLP\, even if you are not a member.\n\nDo I have to pay something to become a member?\n\n No!
