SUMMARY:Open call for art submissions!
DESCRIPTION:\n\nThe Sylvia Rivera Law Project needs your support! Keep SRL
P's free legal services and movement building work going by donating artw
ork to our 10th year anniversary annual art benefit\, Small Works for Big
Change. All proceeds from our art sales go directly towards supporting ou
r community organizing work as well as our provision of free legal servi
ces to trans\, gender non-conforming and intersex low-income people and pe
ople of color. The event is free to the public and will include a silent
bidding process.\n\nThis year\, there will be a featured section of our ev
ent fully dedicated to artwork related to prisoners’ justice\, so we hig
hly encourage those who are or have been impacted by the carceral system o
r those who created art that touches on relevant themes to donate art. T
he range of artworks we are accepting is not exclusive to works that rela
te to prisoners’ justice\, so we encourage all artists to donate\, espec
ially artists who identify as trans\, queer\, people of color\, immigrants
and other marginalized identities.\n\nHow to submit art for our curating
process:\n\nDue to space limitations\, there will be a curating process
this year. Please submit a digital photo of your art along with a title\,
medium\, and description of the art and description of the artist to small
works@srlp.org. If you do not have email capacity\, please mail a photo of
your art with the same information above and your contact information to
the Sylvia Rivera Law Project at 147 West 24th street\, 5th Floor\, New Yo
rk\, NY 10011\, addressed to the attention of the Small Works for Big Chan
ge Committee. We will inform you whether your artwork is accepted soon aft
er our curating process and will let you know of the next steps. If you
are currently incarcerated\, you may mail your art directly to us without
going through the curating process. Due to our limited funds\, artists are
responsible for shipping costs except for those who are currently incar
cerated.\n\nRequirements:\n\nThe artwork must be something that could be
framed and hung on a wall. Because we do not have the capacity to provide
shipping services\, the artwork must remain small in scale – it must be
something that buyers could easily carry and transport by car or by train
.  For more questions about requirements\, please contact Ethan at ethan

to guarantee that all people are free to self-determine their gender iden
tity and expression\, regardless of income or race\, and without facing ha
rassment\, discrimination\, or violence. SRLP is a collective organization
founded on the understanding that gender self-determination is inextricab
ly intertwined with racial\, social and economic justice. Therefore\, we s
eek to increase the political voice and visibility of low-income people an
d people of color who are transgender\, intersex\, or gender non-conformin
 g. SRLP works to improve access to respectful and affirming social\, healt
h\, and legal services for our communities. We believe that in order to cr
eate meaningful political participation and leadership\, we must have acce
ss to basic means of survival and safety from violence.
