 and Feminist Conference on Friday\, 2/16/18 from 6:30–8 PM at a panel di
 scussion on the Technologies of Surveillance and the Selling of the In/Se
 curity State. This is part of a two-day conference fron 2/16 to 2/17 at B
 arnard College featuring speakers such as Simone Browne\, Ruth Wilson Gil
 more\, Inderpal Grewal\, Mariame Kaba\, Cara Page\, and Nandita Sharma. Se

 his year’s Scholar and Feminist Conference will bring together a broad c
 ommunity of thinkers and organizers to grapple with the ever-deepening pen
 etration of surveillance practices into everyday life\, and ways to engage
  in self-defense against the militarized\, racist police state’s demands
  for constant access in the name of “security” and public order. Sessi
 ons will focus on technologies of surveillance and self-defense\; the norm
 alization of the in/security state\; and medical-legal surveillance. Our k
 eynote speaker Simone Browne\, author of Dark Matters: On the Surveillanc
 e of Blackness\, will open the conference by grounding us in the prescient
  and deeply entrenched legacies of anti-black racism and white supremacy i
 n state\, social\, and capitalist systems."
