 t at SRLP\, will be speaking at UCLA's Williams Institute at their confere

 ch shows that LGBTQ youth are overrepresented in the juvenile justice syst
 em. Higher rates of family rejection\, homelessness\, school harassment an
 d bullying\, and a host of other factors related to their sexual orientati
 on and gender identity put them at increased risk of involvement with the 
 system. Once in juvenile detention\, LGBTQ youth are susceptible to the se
 lective enforcement of criminal laws against them and longer lengths of de

 nference\n\nThis conference will focus on the experiences of LGBTQ youth a
 nd their interactions with government institutions\, including child welfa
 re\, homelessness services\, law enforcement\, and criminal detention faci
 lities. Conference panelists will analyze emerging social science research
  on the experiences of LGBTQ youth navigating these systems\, with attenti
 on to the extent to which sexual orientation\, gender identity\, and gende
 r expression are significant in explaining disproportionality and disparit
 ies. Speakers on each panel will also provide a legal framework for discus
 sion about the implications of research findings for law and public policy
