The Sylvia Rivera Law Project provides legal observation for the Trans Day of Action (hosted by the Audre Lorde Project) and when needed to support the direct actions of our members as they take part in our campaigns.
We know that having legal observers who are competent in working with transgender, gender non-conforming, and intersex individuals can make an enormous difference in how safe and comfortable people feel at an action, march, or protest. If you are an organization that provides legal observation and would like to become more competent in working with TGNCI communities, please check out our trainings page.
If you are a TGNCI person curious about your rights and risks when participating in a direct action, we highly recommend checking out this guide which SRLP assisted in creating with the National Center for Transgender Equality.
Please note that a separate organization, the National Lawyers’ Guild, organizes legal observers for many types of actions across the country. Please contact them directly if you are seeking legal observers for a direct action, march, or protest.
