Monica Trinidad is a community-taught artist, writer and organizer. In 2011, she co-founded Brown and Proud Press, a zine-making collective of people of color with the intent of sharing personal narratives as a catalyst for collective healing and change. Now in its 3rd year, Brown & Proud Press has zines archived at the University of Chicago’s Library Zine Collection and Barnard Zine Library, and sold through various distros and bookstores across the country. Monica recently had her artwork featured in the first ever Artists Against Police Violence curated exhibit at East Meets Words Gallery in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She recognizes the integral role art and culture play in our organizing efforts against state violence, and intends to continue creating art that sustains our movements and illuminates our dreams.
