Legal Mail Night Volunteering (November make-up day)

When: Friday, November 23, 2018, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm (iCal) Where: SRLP (Sylvia Rivera Law Project), 147 W 24th St, 5th Floor, New York, NY (See map)

Legal Mail Night is a volunteer opportunity that allows community members and allies to come together and write informative letters to transgender, gender non-conforming, and intersex people who have written to SRLP from behind bars across the US.
SRLP is only able to provide direct legal services to people in New York State, but we know that there are not enough resources out there for any incarcerated person, let alone TGNCI folks. So we hold this night in order to respond thoroughly and with love to these writers and to invite them to join our Movement Building Team through the Prisoner Advisory Committee.
If this is your first time please feel reassured that there will be a brief orientation in the first half-hour and Mik is always present throughout the night to help answer any questions. There is no need for you to have any previous knowledge of the law in order to volunteer! All you need is kindness, energy, attention to detail, and some level of comfort around using a computer.

When: We aim to hold these nights on the first Friday of each month, but they are subject to change. We begin at 6pm and end at 8pm. **If this is your first time attending I ask that you show up at 6pm for a brief orientation, but if you have had the training before please show up anytime before 7!
PLEASE RSVP: mik@srlp.org
Other info: There will be snacks and Metrocards available. If you own a laptop computer, it would be great if you could bring it along.
Please feel free to email Mik in advance if you have questions or concerns.
