Your support fuels the next phase of our trans healthcare campaign. It means that SRLP staff attorneys can continue litigating the Constitutional challenge to the Medicaid exclusion in federal courts. It provides resources for staff organizers to develop new public education tools and provide know-your-rights trainings for trans people navigating the healthcare system. It means that SRLP as a whole can build deeper alliances with our coalition partners. In short, your generosity and your commitment means that our communities can win.
The incredible presence of our community last night showed how important our brilliant, beautiful, and fierce honorees are to our community. We came together to celebrate the work of Kim Forte, Rebecca Novick, Belkys Garcia, Judith Goldiner, Sumani Lanka, Megan Hogan, Mary Eaton, Elliott Fukui, Tanya Walker, Julian Padilla, Dani Heffernan, Chris Carlon, and Tiq Milan, and SRLP’s Matthew Carmody Fellow, John Skwiersky. Thank you all for, as Elliott Fukui so beautifully said last night, carrying forward the legacy of hundreds of trans and gender nonconforming trailblazers who came before us.
Thanks are also due to our incredible host Miasha Forbes, our speakers Soniya Munshi and Caitlin Barry, DJ I$LA, photographer Tiph Browne of Nerdscarf Photography, Afsari Jahan of Émigré Gourmet, the Awards Organizing Committee, our many volunteers, and the staff of Outten & Golden LLP for volunteering their time and hosting us in their space.
You keep our community powerful and strong. Thank you for your commitment to our collective liberation!
