Coronavirus Community Safety: SRLP CURRENTLY CLOSED

Please check this page for most recent updates about our community safety plan in response to the spread of coronavirus in NYC.

As a preventative measure, SRLP’s office is currently closed until further notice. After careful consideration, we believe this plan is the best way to keep everyone as safe as possible while maintaining some of our core services.

  • Staff is working remotely.
  • We will call clients with urgent legal needs.
  • Members & clients are encouraged to contact staff to share their needs during this challenging time.

We take this moment to recognize that issues like the spread of coronavirus disproportionately affect our communities – particularly our communities living in unstable housing, under criminalization or immigration-related surveillance, or on the inside. We are in solidarity with those fighting to ensure that needed care and compassion are shown to all people at this time.

We know the Sylvia Rivera Law Project is an essential direct service provider and movement building space for so many TGNC people of color and low-income people. While we practice social distancing, we plan to discuss with our members what they need and how to help organize remotely to meet these needs, including the needs of members of our Prisoner Advisory Committee. We know that other organizations and direct service providers are all having these conversations and that our folks will be made vulnerable if we don’t plan together with them.

Members are welcome to message us on Facebook to share ways that we can support them during this time. We will support these needs as much as possible.

Let us take care of one another, and continue our collective work to address racism and transphobia during this heightened time in our systems and communities when many folks may need allyship and interdependence.

In solidarity,
The SRLP collective
